It's that time of year... Thunderstorms will be rolling through the area for the next several months.
But rest assured - Chevy Chase Country Club is a safe harbor in the storm. In the last year we have added lighting protection to the clubhouse and a large generator. The generator will kick on anytime there is a loss of power. It will power the entire clubhouse. That means your next event will be safe from the storm and continue on as planned.
Our golf course has state of the art lighting detection systems to alert golfers of approaching storms. The GPS on your golf cart will warn you to head in before the storm hits. A new shelter at the far end of the course has also been added with lighting protection.
We take your safety seriously.

Sports play a number of important roles in a variety of different cultures. Here in America, golf has become a popular part of our culture and the business world. At Chevy Chase Country Club, you can enjoy your favorite sport on our beautiful golf course. But before you hit the green, take a closer look at the history of golf:
- There are many stories and theories regarding the true origins of the game of golf. Some scholars believe that a golf-like game was played as early as the 900s by the Southern Tang Dynasty in China. Others believe golf’s true start was in the Netherlands in the 1290s. Some also believe golf originated during the Middle Ages in Scotland. But no matter where golf got its start, it quickly gained popularity for its unique characteristics and mass appeal.
- Golf gained momentum in Scotland, where it quickly become a favorite among ball and stick sports. Throughout the late 1400s and early 1500s, various bans and edicts went into effect, claiming that golf was an unsuitable sport to play. But this did not stop the golf game from attracting new fans of all ages.
- In the early 1600s, James I of England designated William Mayne as his golf club maker, giving the sport a more prestigious reputation. Golf balls were originally made by stuffing boiled feathers into hand-stitched leather. During the 1800s, a man named Reverend Adam Paterson created a new golf ball using a substance called gutta-percha.
- This ball remained popular until 1903, when the Haskell ball took golf fans by surprise and provided the very best edge for the game. Today, golf is more popular than ever and many professional tournaments are observed every year. This amazing game is great for spending time with friends and getting business done away from the office.
